|Apartment for 2009

After a lot of research, the friends with whom we are going to Venice in February had reserved an apartment for us to share. The location was perfect - very near the Rialto bridge - and the layout and photos of the place made it seem perfect for our group. Unfortunately, our friends just received word that the place now will be unavailable. The owner writes, "there are big restoring works and more there are lack of licenses that compel us to stop with rental for a very long time." Which sounds as though there is some sort of governmental regulatory/licensing at play.|
We're not going to panic, as there is still time (we hope) to find another place. But I'm worried that more places may have the same sorts of issues, if indeed it is a governmental 'crackdown' or something like that.
Anyone have any insights? Or recommendations?
